Camerata Ireland with Barry Douglas

  1. Concert took place at Guangzhou, Yichun, Beijing, Wuhan and Shanghai from 10th-15th December 2016.
  2. Concert took place at Beijing, Tianjin, Handan, Shanghai and Chongqing from 9th-16th December 2018, together with flutist Eimear McGeown.

Camerata Ireland was founded in 1999 by international pianist, conductor, educator and recording artist, Barry Douglas.

The orchestra has gained an international reputation for excellence. Camerata Ireland has given performances throughout the USA and Europe, and in Asia. 

Camerata Ireland’s annual International Concert Series takes it to several major concert venues throughout Europe. Camerata Ireland was honoured to be one of the few chamber orchestras to be invited to be resident in the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, performing the complete Mozart Piano Concertos over several seasons.

In March 2011 the orchestra undertook its 4th major tour of the United States which included a debut concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall.  In May 2011 the orchestra was honoured to be invited to perform for the (former) President of Ireland.

Camera Ireland ended 2013 with a tour to China, performing in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Jinan and at the NCPA in Beijing.

Founder & Conductor & Pianist  Barry Douglas

Barry Douglas has established a major international career since winning the Gold Medal at the 1986 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition, the first non-Russian pianist to do so since Van Cliburn in 1958.  As Artistic Director of Camerata Ireland and the Clandeboye Festival, he continues to celebrate his Irish heritage whilst also maintaining a busy international touring schedule.

He won the Bronze Medal at the Van Cliburn Competition in Texas in 1985 and the top prize in the Santander Paloma O’Shea International Piano Competition competition in Spain.

Barry Douglas received theOrder of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2002 New Year’s Honours List for services to music.

Irish flautist Eimear McGeown has steadily built a reputation as being one of the world’s most versatile exponents of both the classical and Irish flute. She has appeared as a soloist throughout the USA, South America, South Korea, Japan, China, The Philippines, Russia and Europe. Two of her most notable solo performances have been on BBC’s Last Night of the Proms and the World Premiere of Dave Morris’ Concerto in the Library of Congress in Washington DC. 

Eimear is a unique artist with her effortless switch between styles and instruments. On classical flute, she has received various awards including the TCM Silver Medal Award from Trinity College of Music, Camerata Ireland Young Musician of the Year and on the Irish flute, she was All Ireland champion twice. She released her debut album ‘Inis’, launching it at the Irish Embassy in London hosted by Ambassador Adrian O’Neill. It is a genre breaking album, mixing Irish traditional, classical, pop and original compositions with filmic arrangements. In recognition of her achievements in the Performing Arts, Eimear received an invitation by Her Majesty the Queen to attend a Royal Reception at Buckingham Palace.
