Felix Korobov, Music Director of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre, conducted a busy schedule of operas and ballets in 2021 in his home theatre, despite the pandemic! He conducted a highly successful new production of Rigoletto, while ongoing repertoire included Madama Butterfly, Lucia di Lammermoor, Manon, L’elisir d’amore, The Queen of Spades, and Eugene Onegin.
He continued his role as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, and conducted a new production of the opera Quarantine by Verstovsky (an interesting title from 1820!). With their orchestra, he conducted a national tour in Russia to cities including Yekaterinburg, Voronezh, and more.
He also travelled to Dubai to participate in the InClassica International Music Festival 2021 and conducted the Russian National Orchestra; in August he conducted the Georgian Chamber Orchestra at the Sion Festival in Switzerland.
He now has a regular relationship with the great St Petersburg Philharmonic, where his most recent programme included Mozart “Jupiter” Symphony and Bruckner Symphony No. 7.
Covid postponements interfered with his relationship with La Scala Milan, but he will return there to conduct the ballet Onegin in autumn 2022.
