Russian National Orchestra Wind Quintet
The Russian National Orchestra Wind Quintet has been described by the press as “youthful and versatile musicians, acclaimed for their innovation and virtuosity.”
Founded in 2000 and led by RNO Principal Flute Maxim Rubtsov, the RNOWQ includes Bassoon Andrey Snegirev, oboist Vitaly Nazarov, clarinetist Dmitry Aizenshtadt and French horn player Alexey Serov.
The award-winning ensemble received top honors in the May 2005 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition, one of the most prestigious competitions in the chamber music world, earning the Quintet the distinction of being the first Russian ensemble ever to win the top prize.
Following the success of the RNO’s 2004 GRAMMY Award for Peter and the Wolf and Wolf Tracks, the RNO Wind Quintet adapted the score and narration for performances in festivals, museums, zoos, wolf sanctuaries [Wolf Haven] and children’s hospitals in Russia, Bermuda, the USA, the UK and Singapore for delighted audiences of all ages.
In April 2016, the quintet performed a concert at the Moscow State Conservatory. Throughout 2016, the ensemble performed an interactive version of Peter and the Wolfin Moscow schools and also brought the piece to Northmore Elementary School in West Palm Beach hosted by the Center for Creative Education during the RNO’s 25thAnniversary US tour.
