Sinfonietta Cracovia
The highly profiled Ensemble was founded in 1994 with the benevolent support of Elżbieta and Krzysztof Pendereckis, members of the Orchestra’s Artistic Council since 2014. Its first director had been an outstanding violin and viola player – Robert Kabara, accompanied by John Axelrod – principal guest conductor during 2001-2009.
In July 2014, the next chapter in the history of the Orchestra has been started by an acclaimed conductor, musician of the Vienna Philharmonic – Jurek Dybał. Sinfonietta Cracovia performed under the baton of many famous conductors including Krzysztof Penderecki, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Christoph Eschenbach, Lorin Maazel, Valery Gergiev, and collaborated with such eminent soloists as Maxim Vengerov, Boris Pergamenshikov, Rudolf Buchbinder, Mischa Maisky, Julian Rachlin, Pieter Wispelwey, Ilya Gringolts, Gidon Kremer, Gábor Boldoczki, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Arto Noras, Michel Lethiec, Tabea Zimmermann, Grigori Zhyslin, François Leleux, Isabelle Moretti Radovan Vlatković.
In 2017 the Orchestra welcomed Rafael Payare as its new Honorary Guest Conductor. Krakow’s Sinfonietta has given concerts in China, Korea, Japan, Netherlands, Finland, Germany, Czech Republic, Croatia, France and Austria. Sinfonietta’s recent album releases have been awarded, among other International Classical Music Award, Gramofon Award, Pizzicato Supersonic Award and Joker of Crescendo magazine.
Jurek Dybał
General Director and Chief Conductor of The Orchestra of the Royal Capital City of Krakow Sinfonietta Cracovia, an acclaimed conductor and a musician of the famous Vienna Philharmonic.
His charismatic personality has been valued by the audience of many European music venues, in which he has made an appearances with the Wiener KammerOrchester, Wiener Concert-Verein, Concerto Köln, Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo, L’Orchestra del Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Polish Radio Orchestra, Silesian Chamber Orchestra, Wrocław’s Leopoldinum and National Forum of Music Symphony Orchestra as well as Philharmonic Orchestras in Poznań, Krakow, Łódź and Gdańsk. Future guest conducting highlights include Beethoven Orchester Bonn, Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich and Radio Symphonie Orchester Wien.
He is a founder and a director of the Krzysztof Penderecki International Music Festival level 320 held in the historical hall of Guido mine in Zabrze. The artist premiered there a number of Pendereckis works. He is also a recipient of two Fryderyk Awards granted by the Polish Phonographic Academy, as well as Golden Mask cultural award and Jan Kiepura’s Award in The Best Conductor category for musical direction of enthusiastically received stage adaptation of Ubu Rex, an opera written by Krzysztof Penderecki.
